Reader Description

In 1604, the first French settlers arrived in North America. Since that time, thousands of French people have made Canada and the United States their home. They have shared their culture and language in more ways than you might realise.

After you have completed the Reader

One of the reasons that settlers went to Arcadia was to trap animals for their fur. There were pros (good things) and cons (bad things) of this way of life. Research one reason why settlers came to your country. Make a chart with the headings, "Pros" and "Cons". Write the good things and the bad things about the settlers' decisions to move to your country.
