Can parents subscribe from home?
A Wushka Site Licence can only be purchased by the school. This licence allows students to continue using Wushka at home under the guidance of their classroom teacher. Parents cannot subscribe themselves.
Will Wushka save our school money?
Printed School Readers are often damaged in the classroom and lost when they are sent home with students. Using Wushka both at school and at home can significantly reduce the budget for printed School Readers.
Can teachers login to Wushka from both school and home?

Can Teacher Users and Program Coordinators share their login and password with others?
No, Program Coordinators and Teacher Users have personal, free access to Wushka. Sharing of Login Details is prohibited. Please see our Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions.
Can students access Wushka at Home?
Students have complete access to Wushka from their home devices if their school has purchased a Wushka Site Licence. The student’s classroom teacher controls the appropriate reading levels, reading groups and selected readers for home.
Will my School find Wushka easy to administer?
Using one Program Coordinator Account, allows you to quickly set up your teachers, classes and students. Alternatively individual teachers can populate students into their own class. Wushka’s Whole School Management System is so simple to set up and manage and Wushka support is available at all times. Please see our Easy Setup Guides for more information.
How can teachers use Wushka in their teaching practice?
The Wushka Program has been designed to complement traditional reading groups and literacy programs. Wushka School Readers can be used as a whole class, in small groups or with specialised reading support sessions. Every School Reader has detailed support materials including online quizzes, printable lesson plans, blackline masters, literacy activities and printable School Readers. The student’s classroom teacher controls the appropriate reading levels, reading groups and selected readers when Wushka is used at home.
Who has written the Wushka School Readers?
Our School Readers have been created by a team of teachers, authors and designers and are published by world-renowned publisher, Learning Media. Each School Reader has been carefully written and formatted with the aim of helping children develop their literacy skills and a passion for reading. Does Wushka support the English curriculum?
Yes. Wushka’s reading program aligns to the English curriculum. Wushka provides teachers with a means of using digital technologies to complement classroom practice.
As stated in the Australian curriculum*, literacy programs help students to ‘learn to listen to, read, view, speak, write, create and reflect on increasingly complex and sophisticated spoken, written and multimodal texts across a growing range of contexts with accuracy, fluency and purpose’. Wushka provides a safe program where students can feel free to experiment and make mistakes on this journey and where teachers can easily monitor their ongoing progress.

The School Readers within the Wushka Program have been carefully aligned to different reading levels from Magenta (Levels 1-2) through to Black (Levels 31 ++) and they follow a reading recovery-like structure. The different colour reading boxes cater for a range of abilities so that you can select the most appropriate School Readers for your students’ needs.
How do I navigate the digital pages of a Reader?
You can navigate the Reader, without narration, using the arrows on either side of the page. If narration has been selected it begins once you have pressed the narrate play button, text will be highlighted and pages will turn automatically. If you manually turn the page, and would like to continue narration, you will simply need to press the narrate button to start the narration again. Use the back button to return to the cover of the Reader.
How is the narration read?
Depending on the reading level of the Reader, the narration is read word-by-word, sentence-by-sentence or paragraph-by-paragraph. The words are highlighted as the narration is read, and the pages turn automatically. If you would like to remain on a page longer than the narration accounts for, press the pause button. Narration can be turned on or off.
Does every School Reader come with narration?
Yes, every School Reader can be read with narration if the narration has been enabled by the teacher, simply go to your Manage Class List page from your teacher account, click manage class and then Class Narration, Yes.
How do the quizzes on the completion of a School Reader work?
On the completion of a School Reader, students are required to complete multiple choice questions that assess their comprehension level, if the quizzes have been enabled by the teacher. To enable or disable quizzes simply go to your Manage Class List page from your teacher account, click manage class and then Class Quizzes.
How are the quizzes relevant to the reading level?
As the School Readers become more advanced, so do the questions. Lower level quizzes use questions that determine recall and a basic understanding of the main ideas and concepts found within the text. Quizzes then progress into prompting students to apply and analyse knowledge. In the highest levels, students are provided with questions that encourage synthesis and evaluation of hypothetical scenarios related to the text. All quiz questions are structured around the Bloom’s hierarchical model of questioning.
Does every School Reader come with printable Support Material?
Yes, these can include printable lesson plans, literacy activities, blackline masters and printable School Readers.
How do I download a School Reader?
Unfortunately you cannot download our School Readers. Instead, all of the Wushka School Readers are accessible when logged into your account on any device that has an internet connection.
What browsers are supported by Wushka and the Wushka Reader?
Wushka supports Chrome for optimum results. It can be downloaded here. If you are using Internet Explorer however, we recommend that you update to the most recent version as it supports our Reader. If you have any doubts about your browser, please contact us at support@wushka.com.au.
Are your School Readers compatible with devices other than desktop computers?
Yes. Our School Readers are compatible with iPads version 3 and up, and iPad minis. Earlier versions of iPads unfortunately are not supported.
I forgot my password.
If you have forgotten your password please visit the Login page and click the ‘Lost Password?’ link. You will then be prompted to enter the email or username that you used for your account. After completing your details click the ‘Reset Password’ button and an email will then be forwarded to your nominated email address containing a link to create a new password.
